Methane Inventory and MRV Recommendation for Iraq

Project description
Carbon Limits collaborated with the Clean Air Task Force (CATF), the UN Environment Programme's International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) and the International Energy Agency (IEA) to streamline greenhouse gas emissions mitigation efforts in Iraq. The consortium worked with Iraq's Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Oil, and other key decisionmakers to support Iraq to develop a national level methane inventory using CoMAT tool, and in meeting its mitigation goals by organizing a workshop to present the inventory estimate and provide relevant capacity building, developing a methane mitigation assessment for the oil and gas sector (including guidance and recommendations for monitoring, reporting, and verification), and putting forth policy recommendations based on international best practices for the Iraqi government to reduce methane emissions in the oil and gas sector. Throughout the project, the consortium also provided technical and policy guidance in line with the national context and Iraq's commitment to the Global Methane Pledge.
Carbon Limits managed communications with the stakeholders in Iraq, in addition to providing expertise on inventory, mitigation cost estimates, and MRV.
