Training description

This module explores how satellite observations can be used to strengthen methane inventories and complement traditional bottom-up reporting approaches.

Content: Participants will learn what information satellite datasets provide, how to distinguish between methane plumes and emission sources, and how concepts such as persistence can be used to estimate annual emissions from observed events.

The module compares satellite-based and inventory-based estimates, explains why reported emissions may differ from atmospheric observations, and demonstrates how both area flux mappers and point-source imagers can contribute to more complete emissions accounting. The module also discusses the limitations of satellite data and the importance of combining satellite observations with conventional inventory methods.

Format: This training can be delivered in-person or virtually.
