Training description

This module provides an introduction to the rapidly evolving landscape of methane-monitoring satellites and their role in supporting methane emissions management.

Content: Participants will learn how satellites detect methane in the atmosphere, the differences between area flux mappers and point-source imagers, and the strengths and limitations of each technology. The module explains key concepts such as plume detection, emission quantification, detection thresholds, and uncertainty, while highlighting how satellite capabilities have improved over time.

Learning outcome: Participants will gain a practical understanding of what satellites can and cannot do, and how satellite observations can support governments and companies in identifying methane super-emitters.

Format: This module can be delivered in-person or virtually.
