Project description

Methane management is a growing priority for Nigeria's oil and gas sector, as investors, regulators, and international partners increasingly demand accurate measurement, reporting and mitigation.

NNPC and private operators lacked the technical capacity to build reliable inventories or align with standards such as OGMP 2.0. Carbon Limits, alongside EDF, delivered a 12-month technical assistance program that trained indigenous operators, developed a full methane emissions inventory for NNPC, and guided mitigation planning and international engagement.

This work enabled operators to strengthen measurement systems, structure targeted mitigation strategies, and advance toward credible, complete inventories; supporting long-term methane reduction across Nigeria's oil and gas industry.
