Project description

The main objective of this project was to develop a robust data and knowledge based on EU methane emissions. More specifically, the project aimed to consolidate methane emissions data, measurement and estimation methodologies in the EU, focusing on oil and gas operations (from onshore and offshore production through transmission, distribution, and LNG facilities), coal mining activities (including active underground and surface mines, post-mining, and abandoned sites), biogas and biomethane production, and public electricity and heat generation.

The project aimed to perform methane emission measurements in EU countries to fill gaps in reliable data, to develop a methane measurement methodology to monitor current and future methane emissions, to assess existing policy and industry measures, and to develop policy recommendations for an EU strategic plan on methane.
