Project description
Carbon Limits conducted an independent review of methane emission reporting for a multinational oil and gas company, assessing the monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) arrangements in place to issue a verification opinion. The work focused on completeness, data handling and traceability, quantification methods (activity data and emission factors) and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) against international good practice.
Approach
- Asset selection: Carbon Limits selected assets based on materiality of methane sources, geography and facility scale/complexity.
- In‑depth technical review: for each asset and emission source, the team assessed methodologies, activity data and emission/calculation factors, benchmarking against best practices and screened data completeness and handling procedures. Interviews with operators and methane teams were conducted.
- Findings and opinion: Carbon Limits delivered asset‑level and portfolio‑level observations, recommendations and prioritised improvement actions, culminating in an in-depth review opinion on methane reporting.
