Training description

International carbon credit markets are becoming a major source of finance for climate action, but the rules governing them have changed significantly under the Paris Agreement.

Content: This training provides a practical introduction to international carbon credit markets. It covers how carbon pricing and carbon crediting have evolved from the Kyoto Protocol to Article 6, what is actually bought and sold, and who the main buyers and sellers are.

The training explains why host-country authorization determines which markets a carbon credit can be sold into, from national climate targets and aviation offsetting (CORSIA) to voluntary demand. It covers how corresponding adjustments work, the risk of host countries overselling their emission reductions, and how countries set their authorization criteria.

Learning outcome: By the end of the training, participants will understand how international carbon credit markets operate, how to assess and compare countries’ readiness to engage under Article 6, and how to identify where their projects are best positioned to access demand.

Who is this for: Project developers, investors, buyers and corporate sustainability teams.

Format: This training is available in-person or virtual.
