Project description

This project focused on carbon market related policy engagement to enable movement towards a sustainable renewable energy market. The work assignments include:

• Providing for the environmental integrity of the Kazakh ETS and domestic offset scheme through analyzing and recommending best practices in carbon accounting; 
• Providing for increased market liquidity of the Kazakh ETS allowances and domestic offset scheme carbon credits by recommending policies for the increased registration of domestic offset projects and improved domestic carbon market functioning;
• Identifying international opportunities for the Kazakh carbon market including routes to market for carbon assets such as under the Paris Agreement and CORSIA.

The services provided include:

• overall project management;
• leading and performing analysis on environmental integrity of the carbon market in Kazakhstan;
• leading the review of carbon market liquidity;
• identifying opportunities for international cooperation under new mechanisms;
• design of technical and oversight of economic modelling
