Project description

The project is a strategic initiative led by Carbon Limits with the support of Institut Teknologi Bandung, commissioned by the World Bank IFC. Its goal is to evaluate Indonesia’s readiness and potential for deploying carbon capture and storage (CCS) solutions, particularly in hard-to-abate sectors. The project involves four key tasks:

  • reviewing the legal and regulatory framework for CCS,
  • assessing and mapping CO₂ sources and potential storage sites (including depleted oil and gas fields and saline aquifers),
  • screening industrial CCS pilot projects, and,
  • organizing a stakeholder workshop to present findings.

The outcome informs the development of CCS hubs by identifying suitable industrial clusters, estimating market size, diagnosing investment barriers, and recommending policy reforms.
