Project description
The goals of the project were to:
- Clarify the roles of domestic and international carbon market instruments in facilitating the delivery of the country’s updated NDC
- Support the key stakeholders in Georgia in the scoping of the Georgia Carbon Market concept and design
- Take stock of feasible carbon market options for Georgia
- To facilitate consensus among key stakeholders and decision-makers on one or more carbon market options
As to international instruments such as Article 6, an economic model was developed that models the impacts of carbon credit exports and related revenues on the economic growth of Georgia.
- Summarize relevant international experience to identify and elaborate on Carbon Market Options, including a discussion of options for market structuring, institutional organization and governance
- Use the report under activity I as a context for analyzing the situation in Georgia and international relationships. Based on this review the Consultant and acknowledging Georgia’s request, shall summarize recommendations for the Georgia economy by identifying the most promising carbon market options.
- Prepare a road map to a Georgian carbon market scheme while taking into account distinctive Georgia features and providing recommendations for potential capacity building activities to support carbon market development in Georgia
- Ensure sharing of the information with key stakeholders.
