Project description

Carbon Limits has developed three national models to estimate greenhouse gas emissions from the Norwegian agricultural sector, covering:

  • Methane (CH4) emissions from manure management systems (MMS)
  • Atmospheric nitrogen emissions from MMS
  • Methane emissions from enteric fermentation

In addition, Carbon Limits developed a forecasting tool to project emissions through to 2065 and assess the impact of various mitigation measures and agricultural development scenarios.

Since the development of these tools, Carbon Limits has provided ongoing technical support to the Norwegian Environment Agency, including model maintenance and updates, methodological improvements, mitigation measure assessments, uncertainty analysis, and technical advisory services.

The objective of this work is to support the preparation of robust and transparent national GHG inventories for the agricultural sector while providing a sound analytical basis for evaluating mitigation strategies and informing policy decisions.
