Training description

Successful methane management starts with understanding the source of emissions. This module explains how methane forms in coal deposits, why some mines emit significantly more than others, and how geology, coal rank, and mining methods influence emissions. Participants will explore the main emission sources across the coal mining value chain, including ventilation air methane, drained gas, surface mine emissions, post-mining emissions, and abandoned mine methane. Combining scientific concepts with practical examples, this module provides the technical foundation needed to understand emission drivers and identify potential mitigation opportunities.
